Demerara Berbice Interconnected System November 28 Shutdown
Georgetown, Guyana. November 28, 2016: At approximately 09:45 hrs this morning, the Demerara Berbice Interconnected System experienced a shutdown following a trip of the L5 transmission line due to a transient phase to ground fault; the breaker reclosed and held subsequent to the fault occurrence. Inspections in the area identified by the protective device revealed no likely cause.
Restoration efforts commenced at 09:52 hrs around Georgetown and along the East Coast and East Bank Corridors, continuing into Berbice. The last community was repowered at 11:49hrs.West Demerara customers were not affected by this shutdown.
In an isolated incident, around 11:25 customers along Cummingsburg, Kingston, Lacytown and Werk-en-Rust were without electricity due to a burnt jumper on the F4 feeder. Power was restored at 12:02 hrs.
