The Quality Department of the Guyana Power and Light incorporated became operational in the latter part of 2009. The Department was tasked with implementing, monitoring and maintaining a structured Quality Management System in accordance with the ISO 9001:2015 Standard Requirements. Also, to ensure that the organization’s structure, procedures, processes and resources needed to measure the effectiveness of its QMS are documented, implemented and are working effectively.

The Quality Department comprises of the QHSE Division which is led by a Director. The Division comprises of the Quality Department, the Health and Safety Department, the Environmental Unit and the Oil and Water Laboratory. Our Oil and Water Laboratory is certified to GY 170:2021 Standard requirements.

The Quality Department comprises of the Quality Manager, Documentation Management Officer, Quality Control Officer, one Senior Auditor and four Junior Staff.

Roles

The Quality Manager is tasked with the coordination of all activities necessary for registration / certification to ISO 9001, ensuring that certification is maintained, development and maintaining effective media for informing and updating employees, facilitating the determination of customer requirements and expectation with respect to customer satisfaction; and ensuring the promotion of awareness of these customer requirements throughout the organization.

The Quality Control Officer (QCO) is responsible for the implementation of the Procedures for conduct of Internal Quality Audits including planning, execution, reporting and close-out of corrective action.  The QCO is also responsible for follow-ups of reports and Non-conformities issued to departments and to circulate them to Quality Manager and Management Representative.  The QCO utilizes the Quality Department whenever audits have to be completed.

The Documentation Management Officer (DMO) is responsible for developing, controlling and maintaining a Master List of all Quality Management System controlled documentation, including all forms. Also to ensure all procedures are documented in the correct format as outlined in the Quality Manual.  The DMO liaise with the Quality Department during the documentation and controlling of procedures and forms for all departments.
